Inflatable Boat Race

The inflatable boat race has to be one for the greatest events in the Manly calendar.  The first one I witnessed was back in 2009 and it was spectacular.  There was a bit of surf running, a storm brewing to the north and hundreds of inflatable craft  battling 3 foot waves off Manly point.  Nothing beat the hilarious carnage of seeing a blow-up Elmo Castle going over the falls onto a 10 foot white swan!  It's classic!! The event will take place this Sunday 20th November with participants paddling a course from Manly Surf Life Saving Club to the beach in front of Manly Corso.  Event Organiser Meegan Clancy reckons “You can’t possibly have any more fun on a Sunday, whether you are participating, or watching... it’s hysterically entertaining!  Adding to the colour, the rules make the event more crazy....  “The inflatable boat must cost less than $50, different shaped inflatable vessels are encouraged, such as blow-up sheeps, kids castles and the like plus participants must wear fancy dress” said Clancy.

There is a seriousness to the event, with all funds raised from registration generously given to Tour De Cure and Red Kite charities.

Anyone interested in taking part in the wacky event needs to pre-register at  www.immerseyourselfinmanly.com.au/ManlyIBRTC.pdf or find the event details on facebook!  If you want to check out some of the carnage from the 2009 race check it out on the Sprout Daily Facebook Galley page.
