Darkest Week

Long headland shadows

This week we find ourselves itself in the midst of our shortest days.  Sunrise is low and late in the northern part of the sky casting long headland shadows and leaving a quiet stillness over the beach at Freshie. It's tough finding the time for the morning rituals with all the things to do and just under 10 hours of daylight. After this week, the days will extend again.

This morning was especially still with only a remnant of south swell left and a particularly low tide first thing. There wasn't more than a half a dozen surfers out from headland to headland, not a bad scenario to find yourself in if you were out there.

Enjoy the darkest week; Winter Solstice on Saturday.
